Opening Credits

Prison Escape

[Visual: Wide angle of a prison at night. A security guard walks across the hallway eating a donut. He notices one of the cell doors is wide open — someone has escaped.]

GUARD: No! Not Scaleo!

[Visual: The guard drops his donut in slow motion. Scaleo — a green gremlin-like creature — runs from his cell. The guard tries to stop him, but Scaleo uses his scaling powers to enlarge the guard's walkie-talkie, causing the guard's pants to fall down.]

GUARD: It's Scaleo! He's escaping!

GUARD: Halt!

GUARD: Scaleo!

GUARD: Leaping lizards! Scaleo has increased the size of my walkie-talkie by a factor of two. It is now too large to remove from the holster!

[Visual: Scaleo runs for the exit. The guard presses a button labeled "Scale Ella," triggering a spotlight in the nighttime sky.]

GUARD: This is a job for... Scale Ella!

The Bus Stop

[Visual: Two female teens wait at a bus stop. One is texting on her phone.]

TEEN 1: Oh! Oh! Oh! Janice texted me that Matt says that Eli says that Gerritt says that Pamela says that James said he likes me, and wants to know if I like him!

TEEN 2: No way! What are you going to do?

TEEN 1: Um... Um... I'm going to text her to tell him to tell her to tell him to tell her to tell him that I like him too.

[Visual: In the distance, Scaleo spies on the teens and smiles wickedly.]

SCALEO: Oh, how I despise text messaging! I'll show them.

[Visual: Scaleo uses his scaling powers to enlarge the texting teen's thumbs.]

TEEN 2: Scaleo!

TEEN 1: Holy cow! Look at my thumbs! Janice is waiting for me to text her back. I can't press the buttons. Oh, James!

TEEN 2: Oh, no! It looks like your thumbs have been scaled up. This looks like a job for Scale Ella. Scale Ella, we need you!

Scale Factor: Thumbs

[Visual: Scale Ella appears from above, landing smoothly on the ground. Graphics appear showing the size comparison.]

SCALE ELLA: Don't panic, ladies. I can solve your problem using scale factor.

SCALE ELLA: Your thumbs were 2 inches tall. Now, they are 10 inches tall. 2 times what is 10? Five! Five is the scale factor!

[Visual: Visuals showcase each ability Scale Ella can use — width, depth, and height — with the teen's phone providing reference. Ella uses her powers to enlarge the phone to a size suitable for the enlarged thumbs.]

SCALE ELLA: Now, to set things right. I can change the width... depth... and height... My scaling power is outta-sight!

SCALE ELLA: How's that, honey?

TEEN 1: My giant thumbs fit perfectly on the keys again. Thank you, Scale Ella!

SCALE ELLA: Don't thank me! Thank... Mathematics.

[Visual: Scaleo watches in dismay and walks away.]

SCALEO: Drat! Foiled again.

TEEN 2: I really like that nail polish.

The Car Tires

[Visual: Scaleo walks the city streets talking to himself. A car zips by.]

SCALEO: I hate everything and everyone annoys me. Rrr! That Scale Ella! She's always ruining my fun.

SCALEO: Now that is annoying.

SCALEO: I hate fancy cars with screechy tires! I'll fix that.

[Visual: Scaleo sees the woman stopped at a gas station and uses his scaling powers to shrink her car tires. The woman is shocked by what has happened to her tires and calls out for Scale Ella. The same entrance visuals from the previous scene play out again.]

SCALEO: Scaleo!

DRIVER: Zounds! Look at what that horrible creature has done to my ultra-cool tires. Scale Ella! I need you!

SCALE ELLA: What seems to be the problem, young lady?

DRIVER: That horrible creature has scaled my tires down. My car is all out of proportion!

Scale Factor: Tires

[Visual: Scale Ella uses her mind to determine the scale factor. Graphics show the size comparison.]

SCALE ELLA: Let's use… Scale Factor. Her tires were 21 inches tall. Now, they are 7 inches tall. 21 times what is 7? Divide both sides by 21. What equals 7 over 21? Reduce 7 over 21 to ⅓. ⅓ is my scale factor.

[Visual: Visuals show Ella's abilities with width, depth, and height, this time using the car. The car is comedically revealed to be the same size as the shrunken wheels. A clown strolls in and honks his horn before leaving. Scaleo is spotted by Scale Ella, who begins to chase him.]

SCALE ELLA: Now, to set things right. I can change the width... depth... and height... My scaling power is outta-sight!

DRIVER: How's that?

DRIVER: Nice ride!

DRIVER: Thank you, Scale Ella!

SCALEO: Jeepers Creepers! That interfering do-gooder gives me a headache!

SCALE ELLA: Scaleo?! Stop, you scoundrel!

The Giant Roach

[Visual: Scaleo hides in an alleyway but trips on a rock. He notices a cockroach on a trashcan and gets an idea — he enlarges the cockroach to skyscraper size and rides it through the city, destroying buildings.]

SCALE ELLA: Scaleo!

CITIZEN 1: Great Gatsby! Scaleo's made a giant roach! It will destroy the city!

CITIZEN 2: I agree! I wonder how many times larger he has made the roach?!

CITIZEN 1: I am too frightened to make a calculation like that!

CITIZEN 2: Me too. We need Scale Ella!

SCALE ELLA: Fear not, citizens. I will compute… the scale factor.

Scale Factor: The Roach

[Visual: Scale Ella is summoned again with the same entrance visuals. She uses her mind to determine the scale factor.]

SCALE ELLA: A cockroach is about an inch long. But now... The roach is 50 feet long. That's 600 inches! What times 1 equals 600? In other words, 600 divided by what is 1? 600 divided by 600 is 1. The roach is scaled up by a scale factor of 600.

[Visual: Ella's scaling abilities play out — this time with a cockroach wearing a red bow. Ella's cockroach grows to match Scaleo's, grabs its attention, and leads it out of the city toward the bay area.]

SCALE ELLA: Now, to set things right. I can change the width... depth... and height... My scaling power is outta-sight!

Resolution

[Visual: The security guard from the opening walks over to Scale Ella, pants still pulled down by the large walkie-talkie.]

SCALEO: You stupid roach! What are you doing? We have a city to destroy!

SCALEO: Aaah!

SCALEO: Arr! Scale Ella, you've foiled me today, but I'll be back with a plan that is five times as big, or maybe ten times as big, and then I'll finish you!

GUARD: Scale Ella, you saved the city with your powers! But where is Scaleo?

SCALE ELLA: He escaped this time, but I'll be ready for him if he ever comes back. Five times as ready. Or maybe ten times as ready.

[Visual: Scale Ella fades from color to black and white, then to a silhouette, fading out to the closing credits. The Math Snacks and NMSU logos appear.]
